The Sifting Stage

He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver Malachi 3:3

Before flour ever hits the mixing bowl, it must pass through the sieve.

In the old days at Cramer's Bakery, sifting wasn't optional. When you open a raw fifty-pound sack of flour, it's full of hard lumps, compacted density from sitting under pressure in storage, and sometimes small debris from the mill. If you dump that flour straight into the workbench mix, your dough will turn out lumpy, uneven, and riddled with pockets of dry, unblended powder. Sifting aerates the grain. It separates the useful material from the debris and ensures everything enters the bowl completely weightless and ready to absorb the liquid.

We are about to look at The Raw Material of my childhood: the trailer parks, the family blueprints, and the heavy adult weights placed onto a young girl's shoulders.

As we turn this page, I need you to prepare your own heart and do some sifting. We aren't going back into the past to dig up old hurts just to wallow in the mess. We are running our histories through the sieve of God's grace. We are clearing out the heavy clumps of shame and bitterness so we can look at our raw materials with absolute clarity.

Let's step up to the bench. It's time to see what we are working with.
